Celebrating National Rubber Duckie Day In Jacksonville Florida

Did You know?

According to a 1973 Sesame Street calendar, it's Rubber Duckie's birthday on January 13th!

The rubber ducky, originally conceived as a chew toy for children, has quite the fascinating history. Its development dates back to the late 1800s, and in 1928, Landon Smart Lawrence secured the earliest patent for a rubber duck toy. The clever design of the duck ensured that the toy would return to an upright position when tipped.

Later on there was Russian sculptor named Peter Ganine, who was renowned for his animal figures, He designed and patented a floating toy resembling the rubber ducky we know today.

During world War I and II rubber became a valued commodity it was in the 1940’s when the Rubber ducky became a plastic ducky.

Lets Fast forward to 2013, when the rubber ducky earned a well-deserved spot in the Toy Hall of Fame, with only 52 other toys joining its prestigious ranks since the Hall's establishment in 1998.

The origins of National Rubber Ducky Day remain a mystery, but for many of us, the rubber ducky serves as a delightful reminder of cherished childhood memories. For others, it's a playful nudge to indulge in a relaxing bath because, after all, "Rubber Ducky, you make bath time so much fun."

Wishing everyone a quacking good National Rubber Ducky Day! 🦆
